3 Skincare Tips for 60 and Beyond

Congratulations on reaching 60!  Reaching this period of your life is a milestone that is well worth celebrating, yet there’s no harm in looking good while celebrating it, right? While no one expects to look 20 when they reach 60, there’s no harm in looking 50 right?

Along with all of the wonderful experiences and knowledge that come along with this age, also comes big changes with our bodies. Our skin in particular starts to change in appearance, as we find ourselves with more fine lines and wrinkles. The great news is that you don’t have to look like a dried up raisin! With the right skin care regimen you can look your best well into your golden years. Here are some of the best skincare tips for age 60 and beyond.

The key to great looking skin is keeping it hydrated. You want a thick moisturizer that locks in hydration throughout the day. While light moisturizers are more appropriate in your younger years, over 60,  you want something so thick it’s almost a pomade.  In addition to your moisturizer, you also want to make sure that your cleanser is hydrating as well.

After all, there’s no point investing in a thick moisturizer if you’re going to strip your skin of all its natural oils when you wash your face. Gentle is always the best way to go when buying a cleanser.

Lastly, don’t forget the importance of hydrating from the inside out. Drink plenty of water as this will replenish and moisturize from the inside out. Take regular sips from a water bottle throughout the day, and you’ll find that your skin looks that much smoother and radiant.

Wear Sunscreen

One of the biggest misconceptions about skin care is that you only need to wear sunscreen if you’re in the sun. And while sunscreen is undoubtedly a critical part of having a beach day, or even walking around on a Sunday afternoon, what many people don’t realize is that even overcast days cause cell damage.

Every single day it’s important that you apply an SPF of 30 or higher on your face underneath whatever else you wear. Whether you wear foundation or not, make sure that you have sunscreen underneath, or incorporated directly into the product itself. This won’t just preserve the integrity of your skin, but it will also help protect against cancer.

Avoid Stress

There’s some people that look much younger than they are, and while a lot of this may have to do with genetics or a great moisturizer, some of it has to do with what’s on the inside. Try to avoid stress in your life, and you’ll find that it will show on your face. And while we may not be able to eliminate stress entirely from our lives, we can minimize our exposure to it.

This can be done by surrounding yourself with positive people, and ultimately knowing when to walk away from a toxic situation. While you’re at it, learn a few deep breathing techniques to control your stress levels when faced with an adverse situation. You’ll find yourself with a lot fewer wrinkles once you reach 100!
