Installing a Home Elevator: Factors to Consider

Home elevators are becoming more and more common in many affluent parts of Thailand. A home elevator is the ideal choice for people who have difficulty in climbing up the stairs and need to move up and down. Home elevators are quite different from commercial elevators; they are much smaller, easier to install, and slightly slower as well. However, if you want to install a new elevator in your house, there are a number of factors that you need to consider. Here are some important things that you need to take into account if you want to install a home elevator.

Types of Elevators

One of the first things that you need to consider if you want to install an elevator is the model and the kind of elevator you choose. There are numerous companies in Thailand from where you can get a new elevator installed. When you visit a showroom, you might find it difficult to choose a suitable model. For instance, the hydraulic model is one of the most traditional models, making use of pistons and cables to keep the elevator running. Then, there’s the pneumatic elevator, which utilizes changes in air pressure to move the cab. There are also electric elevators with counterweights to keep the elevator suspended.

Setting a Budget

One of the first things that you will want to consider if you want to install a home elevator in Thailand is your budget. Once you check out a few showrooms, you will have a better idea about the average prices for different models. Then, all you have to do is to set a budget and make sure that you do not budge from it. You might be tempted by newer models that come with more features but do you need something such as that in your house? If you need a home elevator for the elderly in your house, a basic one with simple features is all you need.

Space for the Machine Room

More importantly, you are going to need space not just for the elevator but also for the machine room. The machine room is where all the equipment is going to be kept. The components needed to lift the elevator and bring it down must be housed in a separate room. It contains a separate control box, the hydraulic tank or the drum motor. If you have an electric elevator, the room will contain a control system and cables.

Weight Capacity

All elevators have a specific weight limit and are usually designed to hold a maximum number of people. Depending upon the number of people in the house and the space available, the type of elevator you choose will vary. Depending upon the number of stories in your house, the model and the maximum weight limit will vary. These are just some of the important factors that you need to consider if you are interested in installing a home elevator in your house for an affordable price.
